Starting today, Friday, September 18th, 2026, Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) contractor, Boh Bros, will be temporarily closing two lanes of Poydras St (lake bound) from Freret St to Clara St to facilitate emergency repairs to a collapsed vault lid.
For all traffic interruptions, signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing are onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.
LOCATION: The 1600 block of Poydras St (lake bound) from Freret St to Clara St will have a double-lane closure (middle and right lanes) to facilitate repairs.
WORK SCHEDULE: We anticipate repairs to be completed by Saturday 9/26, weather permitting. Crews will be working throughout the weekend to accommodate this schedule.
TRAFFIC IMPACT: Traffic on Poydras St (lake bound) will be shifted into one lane to accommodate active construction until Sunday 9/20; the right and middle lane will be closed. On Sunday, crews plan to reopen the middle lane, shrinking the lane closure into a single right-lane closure. All lanes are expected to be reopened to traffic on Saturday, 9/26. If we encounter any obstacles that prevent us from completing this repair as currently scheduled, we will install a steel plate over the opening and return after the back-to-back Saints home games.
