French Quarter Transmission Main Project (TM010)

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) is replacing 115-year-old drinking water transmission mains within our distribution system with newer, larger pipes. These efforts will help improve water pressure in many parts of Orleans Parish.

The replacement of the 24” water transmission mains in the 900–1100 blocks of Decatur St. from Dumaine to Governor Nicholls Streets and the 600 block of St. Peter St. from Chartres to Royal Streets is the 7th Joint Infrastructure Recovery Roads (JIRR) Transmission Main Project that SWBNO contractors have constructed since 2021. The transmission main replacement program is funded by FEMA and managed by SWBNO in cooperation with the City of New Orleans as part of the Joint Infrastructure Recovery Request (JIRR) Program.

The original transmission mains and business connections on these blocks were installed in 1906 and 1908. We are fully reconstructing the blocks above which means constructing new water, sewer, and drain lines. The French Quarter Transmission Main project (TM010) is expected to take approximately a year to complete. Roubion Roads and Streets LLC is the awarded contractor for the SWBNO portion of the project.
