NEW ORLEANS, LA — SWBNO crews are actively responding to a 54-inch sewer force main break discharging into the Industrial Canal near Florida Ave.

SWBNO was alerted to damage in the area this morning. Based on an initial assessment, it appears a vessel struck and damaged a submerged sewer force main at approximately 7 p.m. Friday.

Crews are on site working to assess the situation while efforts are currently underway to isolate the broken sewer main that is discharging into the canal. 

At this time, residents are asked to stay clear of the area surrounding the Industrial Canal at Florida Ave and avoid recreational activities such as fishing in the canal. Public safety remains a top priority as crews continue repairs.
