New Orleans, LA - The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) is notifying all customers that Turbine 5 is temporarily out of service, reducing SWBNO’s 25Hz power generation capacity to 51.5MW. At peak demand, our system requires 44MW of 25Hz power.
SWBNO crews discovered an issue with a faulty temperature sensor on T5. At this time, we believe the issue is limited to one section of the controls system and there is no indication of further damage to Turbine 5. We have consulted with the manufacturer, GE, to provide the necessary replacement parts and labor. Repairs are anticipated to be completed within two weeks.
At this time, SWBNO Operations is utilizing Turbine 4, our current frequency changers, and back-up generators (EMD’s) to distribute power amongst the various Drainage Pumping Stations (DPS's). For the full pumping and power statuses, please visit our Pumping and Power Dashboard: https://www.swbno.org/Projects/PumpingAndPower.
We will continue to provide updates as repairs progress.
