Sewerage System Status Updates and Water Conservation During Hurricane Francine

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 11, 2024 8:24 PM

New Orleans, LA - The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) is experiencing impacts at several sewerage pump stations due to power outages and other issues. The public is urged to conserve water as we work to bring the sewer system back to full capacity.

Customers should avoid using large appliances such as washing machines, take shorter showers, and focus on general water conservation.

“It is critical that we don’t place added stress on our system as we work to bring it back to full capacity,” said Executive Director Ghassan Korban. “We will be using generators and other equipment to provide additional functionality to support our system. We are continuing to monitor the situation and will continue to provide updates to the public.”

SWBNO will continue to provide updates through our Storm Center Dashboard and in collaboration with the City of New Orleans and the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
