Update: Regarding the Drainage Capacity at Drainage Pump Station 17

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 11, 2024 12:38 PM

New Orleans, LA - The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) is closely monitoring Hurricane Francine, and our drainage pump stations' (DPS) capacity. To clarify, the pumps at DPS 17 near Florida Ave. and Peoples Ave. in the St. Roch/Desire area are not in service. Those pumps are only used for dry weather flow (groundwater) and do not impact the drainage capacity for this neighborhood.

Drainage for St. Roch, Desire and Gentilly is serviced by DPS 19 near Florida Ave. and the Inner Harbor Navigational Canal, which is operating at full capacity.

We have updated our Pumping and Power dashboard to include this information. Permanent revisions reflecting available pumps will be made to reflect this clarification.

SWBNO will continue to provide updates through our Storm Center Dashboard and in collaboration with the City of New Orleans and the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
