Traffic Advisory: Temporary Closures at Earhart Blvd HOV Lanes at Magnolia St and Howard Ave

New Orleans, La - The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) contractor, Wallace C Drennan, is scheduled to begin water main repairs on Earhart Boulevard at Magnolia Street starting today, Wednesday, September 4, 2024. The contractor will be executing lane and street closures to facilitate lining to a 30” water main. The street and lane closures are expected to last up to eight weeks. Signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing are onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.


Initial Work Phase:

Location: Magnolia St at Earhart Blvd and Howard Ave from Magnolia St to Le Rouge St

Work Description: Water main repairs and water main lining

Work Schedule: The water main repairs and paving restoration is expected to last up to eight weeks

Traffic Impact: 

  • Magnolia St at Earhart Blvd will be closed to through traffic; one lane of Earhart Blvd (river and lake bound) will be closed leading up to Magnolia St
  • Earhart Blvd HOV will be reduced to one lane
  • Howard Avenue will be reduced to one lane traffic in each direction from Magnolia St to Le Rouge St
  • Magnolia St and Le Rouge St will be reduced to one lane traffic in each direction from Dave Dixon Dr to Howard Ave

 

Upcoming Work Phase:

Location: Earhart Blvd (river bound) closure from S Claiborne Avenue to Magnolia Street

Work Schedule: Details on the timing and duration of this phase will be provided several days before the work commences. This closure will occur at night, after hours for minimal traffic disruption

Traffic Impact: Earhart Blvd (river bound) will be closed to through traffic after hours to accommodate pipe installation for one night
