For Immediate Release: Thursday, July 25, 2024 4:32 PM

NEW ORLEANS — Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) understands that there is an increase of infrastructure upgrades ongoing in the Carrollton neighborhood, including SWBNO Sewer System Evaluation & Rehabilitation (SSERP), SWBNO Networks Department (maintenance and repair) work, and RoadworkNOLA infrastructure projects.

SWBNO has updates to provide regarding traffic in the neighborhood related to the SSERP and maintenance work. We have also updated our website to include more information related to the SSERP work ongoing in the Carrollton basin to improve communication to customers and to provide maps, schedules and updates, accordingly.

We appreciate your continued patience while we work to upgrade your sewerage and water infrastructure. If you have any questions, please contact Community Outreach at Outreach@swbno.org.

SWBNO SSERP updates:

SWBNO contractor RNGD is currently excavating and preparing the 8400 block of Panola St for paving as part of our SSERP project 30249. From Monday, 7/29, to Friday, 8/2, the 8200 – 8300 blocks of Panola St will also have concrete poured. Significant improvement should be made for these blocks as we are in this area's final stretch of roadway restoration.

The 1500 block of Leonidas is part of SSERP project 30235, constructed by BLD. This block has been under full sewer restoration, and the work is almost complete. Crews plan to have the work completed by the end of the week and the block backfilled, weather permitting. Roadway restoration should start in the next 4-6 weeks, with updates for paving found on our SSERP webpage

SWBNO Networks Department (maintenance and repair) updates:

SWBNO contractor Wallace C Drennan has repaired a water valve leak at the intersection of S Carrollton Ave and Spruce St, they are working on paving restoration now and aim to have this completed by the end of the week (weather permitting). We know that this closure on S Carrollton Ave has provided an influx of traffic on the neighboring block, Dublin St. S Carrollton Ave should be reopened by the weekend if there is no inclement weather preventing paving work.

The Cohn and Dante St intersection is currently closed due to a break in the sewer main. However, before we can repair the sewer main, we need to repair a water main at Joliet and Cohn streets, as water is getting into the sewer main from this leak, preventing repairs. SWBNO contractor Wallace C Drennan is mobilizing to begin repairs today and tomorrow at Joliet and Cohn streets so we can move forward with the Cohn and Dante sewer repairs. The intersection of Cohn and Dante streets has been secured. We have requested that the contractor monitor the location intermittently during working hours to ensure that the barricades are in place and the intersection remains secured. This intersection will likely be closed for around 3 weeks due to the complexity of the water leak repair on a 30” water main at Joliet and Cohn streets.
