SWBNO to Conduct Test Closure of 48-Inch Water Main Valve on France Rd. and Almonaster Ave.

For Immediate Release: Friday, March 22, 2019 9:08 AM

NEW ORLEANS – On Monday, March 25, 2019, Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) will be performing a test closure of a 48-inch water main valve on France Road and Almonaster Avenue from 3:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., which could potentially impact water pressure in Upper and Lower Ninth Ward.

The purpose of the test closure is to investigate a potentially defective water valve near France and Almonaster. SWBNO plans to repair this valve prior to replacing approximately 100 feet of a 48-inch water main as part of the ongoing SELA construction project on the Florida drainage canal.

Test closures are important to assess the potential impact on water pressure prior to scheduled maintenance or repairs which will be scheduled in the coming weeks. Such test closures are controlled by SWBNO employees, who constantly monitor water pressure and react to any impact. Should there be any significant drop in water pressure, the test closure will be suspended to prevent any major impact on residents’ water service.

Residents in the affected area could experience changes in water pressure during the test closures. Please report any changes in water pressure by calling 52-WATER.
