Traffic Advisory: Temporary Closures on Decatur St at Wilkinson St and Dumaine St

Update: Due to inclement weather, the lane closures on Decatur St and Wilkinson St is rescheduled to Thursday, November 14. The lane closures are expected to last up to two days for the assessment of needed repairs. 

New Orleans, La - The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) contractor, Wallace C Drennan, is scheduled to begin assessing the work needed for water vault repairs on Decatur Street and Wilkinson Street starting Tuesday, November 12, 2024. The contractor will be executing lane closures to facilitate cleaning and assessing a water main vault for repairs. The lane closures are expected to last up to two days for assessment of the needed repairs. An additional closure(s) will occur at a later date for the repair work.

Signage and traffic control measures such as barrels and fencing are onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.

Initial Work Phase:

  • Location: Decatur St (Canal St bound lane) from Dumaine St to Wilkinson St.
  • Work Description: Water main vault assessment and cleaning.
  • Work Schedule: The water main vault assessment and cleaning is expected to take up to 2 days. The lane closures will begin at 9am and be removed at 4pm to minimize traffic impacts. 
  • Traffic Impact: Traffic will be reduced to one lane and for local traffic only on Decatur St (Canal St bound lane) starting at Dumaine St and leading up to Wilkinson St. 

Upcoming Work Phase:

  • Location: Decatur St at Wilkison St to Dumaine St.
  • Work Schedule: Details on the timing and duration of this phase will be provided several days before the work commences. 
  • Traffic Impact: Decatur St at Wilkison St will be closed to through traffic. Additional details will be provided several days before the work commences.
