Update: Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Canceled for Limited Part of New Orleans East

For Immediate Release: Sunday, November 5, 2023 10:23 AM

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO), in consultation with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), has canceled the precautionary boil water advisory for limited parts of Orleans East, which included the area bounded by:

  • Entire Oak Island subdivisions
  • Portion of Michoud bounded by:
    • Red Maple Drive
    • Maplewood Drive
    • Bayou Michoud to Dwyer Road
    • Dwyer Road to Kim Drive
    • Kim Drive to the levee

A map of the area currently under a precautionary boil water advisory is here.

Water pressures in this area fell below 20 pounds per square inch (psi) due to a struck fire hydrant in New Orleans East on Caddo Place near Michoud Blvd.

Customers who have not used their water supply during this precautionary boil water advisory are advised to flush their internal and external plumbing by running water through their system for several minutes.

SWBNO is committed to providing safe drinking water, and this precautionary boil water advisory was issued out of an abundance of caution to ensure the public’s safety. We thank the impacted residents and businesses for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Boil water advisories are issued out of an abundance of caution whenever the water pressure drops below 20 psi. We agree with the recommendations of our regulatory partner, LDH, that it is prudent to issue these advisories.

We appreciate your patience as we work to improve your water system. As always, if you are experiencing very low or no water pressure, or witness a water or sewer emergency, please call 504-52-WATER (504-529-2837) and choose your language option (1 for English) and 1 for emergencies.
