“We are encouraged by the United States' Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE’s) updated timeline, which projects SWBNO’s intakes will not see salinity levels exceeding the High Sodium Water Advisory limit of 250 parts per million (ppm). After consulting with the Louisiana Department of Health on the new projections, we are proceeding with our blending plans for the Algiers intakes, in coordination with USACE, to prepare for higher-than-typical salinity levels (usually 20ppm to 60ppm). Based on the current forecast, we are confident the salinity levels at the Carrolton intakes will remain within our typical range. SWBNO is committed to communicating any impacts or changes with our customers and partnering with local, regional, and federal agencies to find long-term solutions that protect public health.”
- SWBNO Executive Director Ghassan Korban
