Kind of Work
This is a master level skilled maintenance position at the Board. An individual performs one or more skilled construction, maintenance and repair tasks of the Sewerage and Water Board's plant equipment and plant facilities areas. Work requires a broad knowledge of construction, equipment and, maintenance and repair techniques with individual assignments requiring use of skills in one of the following trades Electrical, Welding, Machinist, Control Instrument Tech and/or Diesel Mechanics trade. A Utilities Master Maintenance Specialist originates projects, gets permits for construction and installations and oversees the work of apprentices; and related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED issued by a state Department of Education.*
A valid Driver's License.*
Two (2) years of full-time experience at the journeyman level as an electrician, machinist, welder, or stationary diesel mechanic.
ELECTRICIAN: A Class A, C or D electrical license. *
MACHINIST: Machinist work at the journeyman level in the manufacture of machine parts and tools and the construction, assembly, installation and repair of various types of machinery and machine equipment. All applicants must be able to operate a Lathe.
WELDER: Welding experience at the journeyman level must have included at least six (6) months of experience in pipe welding.
DIESEL MECHANIC: Stationary diesel engine repair and maintenance work at the journeyman level.
Note: Journeyman level for internal candidates begins at the Utilities Trade Specialist I level.
NOTE: Pay above the minimum for superior qualifications may be granted under Civil Service Commission Rule IV Sec. 2.7 based on a review of the applicant pool, candidate's verified experience, education, and/or possession of related certifications.
* Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education, valid driver's license, and licenses claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
Kind of Examination
A qualifying performance test and a rating of training and experience, weighted 100%. All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years. Applicants must pass the performance test in order to be rated on their experience.
Electrician: A qualifying performance test consisting of five wiring problems (lighting, motor, resistors, transformer, and motor control starter) and one conduit-bending problem.
Machinist: A qualifying performance test.
Welder: A qualifying performance test consisting of electric, acetylene, and heliarc welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, bronze, mold and case iron. The test will also demonstrate ability to lay out, cut, and fit work.
Diesel Mechanic: A qualifying performance test.
This is an original entrance examination.
