Kind of Work
Semi-skilled work in the maintenance of transportation, water, sewerage or drainage systems. Training for routine supervisory duties in directing the activities of a maintenance crew engaged in the maintenance and repair of specialized city properties; and related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Permanent status with the Sewerage & Water Board as a Laborer.
Successful completion of the following training courses offered by the Department of Civil Service Employee Growth and Development Division:
Reading Comprehension (COMM 100)
Business Mathematics (COMP410) OR
Basic Math for Utilities Workers (COMP 400)
3. A good work record consisting of:
No more than six (6) sick leave days taken within the last six (6) months other than those for which a doctor's certificate is presented.
No unexcused absences within the last six (6) months. (Unexcused absences are defined as instances when the employee does not report to work or call to notify his/her supervisor of his/her intention to take sick or emergency leave, including unauthorized tardiness and leaving the job without authorization.
No written disciplinary action within the last six (6) months.
Note: Some positions in this classification may require a current Louisiana Commercial Driver's License.
Kind of Examination
A qualifying review of training and experience and a verification of the applicant's work record.
This is a non-competitive departmental promotional examination limited to permanent employees of the Sewerage and Water Board. This examination is being given in accordance with Rule V, Section 8.1(c) of the City Civil Service Rules.
